30 Year Hometown Teacher - Positive Voice for ALL
Hello, my name is Melissa Granstaff, and I am honored to announce my candidacy for the Wilson County School Board, Zone 2.
Wilson County Schools have shaped my life for as long as I can remember. I attended Southside from kindergarten through seventh grade, spent my eighth-grade year at Tuckers Crossroads, and graduated from Lebanon High School as part of the Class of ’89. I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree from Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN, and later completed my master’s degree at Tennessee Tech.
I returned to Southside as a Physical Education teacher, proudly serving the school and its families for 30 years before retiring in May 2025. During my time there I coached multiple sports, served as Athletic Director, and had the privilege of being voted Southside’s Teacher of the Year in 2016–2017. That same year, I was deeply honored to be named the Wilson County Teacher of the Year.
Community has always been important to me. I believe public education is far more than what happens inside a classroom—it is the foundation of a strong, connected community. Our schools shape future leaders, instill shared values, and provide the knowledge and skills that allow our county to grow and thrive. When we invest in public education, we invest in the long-term strength and success of everyone who calls Wilson County home.
As I move into retirement, I would be grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the hometown and school system that has given me so much. I would be honored to represent Zone 2 on the Wilson County School Board and to advocate for the students, families, and educators who make this community exceptional.
